Child Health and Welfare Summit In-person and online Bryant Conference Center July 18 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. https://training.ua.edu/health-child/ $35 The University of Alabama School of Social Work, through the support of The Caring Foundation of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, will host the Annual Child Health and Welfare Summit on July 18 at Bryant Conference Center in Tuscaloosa. There is also an option to participate virtually. This year’s summit will provide information on the most common childhood mental health diagnoses, treatment options, and awareness of side effects that may occur from taking psychotropic medications for mental health diagnoses. All of this will be tackled with a focus on children and youth in foster care. There is a growing body of evidence demonstrating that abuse and neglect – common precursors to those involved in the child welfare system – strongly affect the adolescent brain. This summit will benefit child welfare practitioners, foster parents and caregivers, social workers, teachers, therapists and medical personnel.
